1480348 Cleaning vehicle headlamp lenses LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 29 Oct 1974 [11 Dec 1973] 57309/73 Heading A4F A headlamp washing device comprises a discharge nozzle 11 for washing liquid carried on an arm 10 mountable on a motor vehicle so as to be movable between an inoperative position, Fig. 1, and an operative position, Fig. 2, in which the nozzle 11 is directed towards a headlamp H, movement of the arm 10 from the inoperative to the operative position opening a valve, e.g., a fixed pin 12 having a through-bore 15, about which the arm 10 is pivotable to align a passage 13 in the arm 10 with the bore 15 in the pin 12, means, e.g. a bellows 16 expanded by the pressure of supplied washing liquid, being provided for moving the arm 10 from the inoperative to the operative position. A spring 22 returns the arm 10 to its inoperative position. In an alternative embodiment the arm (110), Fig. 3 (not shown), is tilted by a piston and cylinder device, the piston (114) serving as a valve to controlling the washing liquid supply. The liquid passes from the cylinder (116) to the end of the arm via an external flexible pipe (118).
