Abstract

1480183 Electric connector FERRANTI Ltd 15 March 1976 [18 March 1975] 11302/75 Heading H2E A connector, for use with a p.c.b. 23 which has contact means 24 on one side only, comprises an insulating housing 10, a plurality of contacts 13 each accommodated in a respective recess 11, between walls 12 of the housing, and a securing member 18. Each contact 13 has a contact portion 14 and a terminal portion 15. The securing member 18 (Fig. 2) has a lip 19 for pressing p.o.b. 23 on to contacts 13 when moved laterally, through slots 21 co-operating with spigots 17 on flange 16 of housing 10. Cut away portions 22 on member 18 enable spigots 17 to enter slots 21, and locking means, not shown, may be provided on the opposite ends of slots 21 for locking the securing member in position. An alternative method of locking the securing member in position (Fig. 5, not shown) consists in providing a resilient tongue (25) on flange 16, carrying a step (26) which fits in a recess (27) on the securing member; the securing member can be released by depressing the tongue (25). To prevent incorrect insertion of the p.c.b., a peg may be provided on one of the housing or p.c.b. and a co-operating aperture on the other; a locating peg (29, Figs. 6, 7, not shown) may be provided on a locating piece having two ribs (28) which fit into adjacent recesses 11 on housing 10, and a co-operating aperture (30) on p.c.b. 23. The p.o.b. may have contact areas on more than one edge, in which case a plurality of connectors is used. The connector may be mounted on a further p.c.b. (32, Fig. 8, not shown) with the terminal portions 15 being soldered to the p.c.b. (32); an additional clip (31) may be used to secure the rear of the connector to the p.c.b. (32). Slots 21 may be straight, and spigots 17 may be inserts, e.g. metal pins secured to housing 10.
