Abstract
1479467 Counting apparatus ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 13 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 39936/74 Heading G4D [Also in Division F1] A digital circuit arrangement is provided for initiating an operation, ignition or fuel injection or valve operation, in an I.C. engine at an angular position of the crank-shaft determined by the operating parameters of the engine. The arrangement shown includes a pulse tachogenerator 10 for producing a train of pulses, a periodic time counter 27 for determining the periodic time of the tachogenerator pulses, a final state memory 28 for storing as a binary number this periodic time, a characteristic curve pulse generator 30 for producing a train of pulses which are non-uniformly distributed over the angular distance traversed by the crank-shaft and a counter 35 for counting these pulses, so that an initiating output signal is obtained from comparator 39 when the count in counter 35 is the same as that in memory 28. The output from pulse tachogenerator 10 which produces narrow pulses is used to control the transfer of data from counter 27 to the memory 28 and presetting data from memory 41 into counter 27. The oscillator 26 produces pulses whose frequency varies with the induction manifold pressure as detected by bellows 20 which alter the position of core 23 in coil 24. The presetting data is stored in read only memory 41 which is addressed by lines 43 which may signal conditions of engine start by switch 48 and/or the output of an exhaust gas probe (switch 49). The desired value is derived from tachogenerator 30 which consists of a wheel rotating with the engine crank-shaft and having unevenly spaced teeth around its periphery for co-operating with pick-up coil 33. The arrangement of teeth is such as to provide the desired ignition advance/time period characteristic. A crank-shaft driven switch 36 is provided to reset the counter 35 and load it with a presetting count from memory 42 which is similar to memory 41 and, as shown, is addressed at input 44 by a signal responsive to engine temperature as detected by NTC resistor 47. Preferably the wheels 11, 31 and switch 36 are replaced by an optical tachometer arrangement including marks scribed in tracks around a disc and read photoelectrically. The reference pulse from switch 36 is arranged to occur at 42‹ BTDC so that counter 35 starts to fill at 40‹ BTDC and provision is made by extending the marks for the ignition to be retarded to a position after TDC under extreme cold conditions.
