Abstract

1478659 Passenger conveyers and escalators GOODYEAR TIRE and RUBBER CO 13 June 1974 [9 July 1973] 26327/74 Heading B8A The drive of a passenger conveyer or escalator is stopped and then restarted in reverse when an unsafe condition occurs. When termination of the unsafe condition is sensed, the reverse drive is stopped. As applied to an escalator, if a foreign object passes below comb teeth 14, the latter transmit their movement via a slider bar 15, support surface 17, and landing plate 5, to limit switches 31 and/or 32. The latter are part of a control circuit (Fig. 6, not shown). This includes a series of indicator flags (101)-(105) which indicate the presence of an unsafe condition at the top or bottom of the escalator, or of the operation of an emergency stop button.
