Classes 78 (5) and 104 (2). In a conveyer system in which trolleys run on rails having at least one vertically-movable section connected by a rope or cable to an electrically-operated hoist, fixed stops and limit switches and overload-preventing means, each of the fixed stops locates the movable section in a predetermined upper position, the limit switches switch-off the electric hoist when the section is in its desired upper or lower position and the overload-preventing means is either in the form of a slipping clutch between the rop or cable and the hoist or a spring interposed between the section and the hoist. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, a rail portion 2 is moved vertical by a winch 3 to a position determined by stops 4 in which position the rail portion 2 is aligned with the track 1. When in the aligned position a slipping clutch, Fig. 2 (not shown), inserted between the winch driving motor and winch drive, prevents overloading of the winch 3. In an alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 3, over-travel of the winch 3 is taken up by a spring 9 and a limit switch 8 breaks the electric circuit to the winch driving motor.
