CONSTITUTION:Guide rollers 7 are mounted at a connecting plate 9 which is rotatable at a pin 8 as a fulcrum at one end and which is urged downwardly by a suitable elastic pressure by a spring 10 at the other end, thereby forming a travelling locus 4A of a handrail. If a rising escalator might invert, the handrail travelling locus moves upwardly from the locus 4A, and the plate 9 rotates to the position 9' around the fulcrum 8 as a center. Accordingly, a detection switch 11 opens, thereby automatically stopping the escalator. In this manner, it an eliminate a malfunction such as an overturn of a passenger at the time of inverting the escalator.
