Abstract
1478043 Asbestos/rubber/microsphere blends TBA INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS Ltd 9 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49433/73 Heading C3C An asbestos-rubber composition, used as at least one facing layer on a metal-cored gasket, has a compression set (as defined) in excess of 50% and contains microspheres (i.e. hollow silica or glass microballoons and/or fuel ash cenospheres) in up to 75% by volume in amount. The microspheres may have a diameter of 20-200 Á and a wall thickness of 5-15% of their diameter. In the example a dough consisting of styrene/butadiene rubber, zinc oxide, carbon black, stearic acid, tetramethylthiuram disulphide, N - cyclohexyl benzthiazole - 2- sulphenamide, sulphur, toluene, asbestos fibre, fuel ash cenospheres, sodium carbonate and water was applied to both sides of a steel core, dried and vulcanized, and the material was then formed into a gasket.
