Abstract
1477638 X-ray intensifying screens AGFAGEVAEKT 7 Aug 1974 [25 June 1974] 28183/74 Heading H5R The rapid non-darkroom processing advantages of fine-grain low Ag halide emulsions, to gells with adequate sensitivity to X-rays are achieved by combining a fast AgBr-AgI emulsion with a slow fine grain AgCl dye-coupled emulsion giving a cyan image on development, the film being single or double sided and intensified by single or double separate or integral intensifying screens, fluorescing strongly between 400 and 500 nm wavelength, comprising LaOCI and/or LaOBr phosphors with halogens near stoichiometric, activated by rare earths. The developed image in silver and dye is viewed in red or yellow light. In an example, an AgBr with 9% molar AgI) emulsion combined with equimolar AgCl finer grain emulsion is formed with an α-naphthol or a phenolic dye coupler having two NHR groups in p-positions, the Rs being carboxylic or sulphonic acid acyl groups, optionally substituted, coated on both sides of a polymer support at a total of 6 g.Ag per m.<SP>2</SP> it is exposed to X-rays between screens comprising LaOBr with 0À002 Tb<SP>3+</SP> and 0À0005 Yb (to reduce after-glow) molar proportions in 82À1% w./w. emulsion applied to a polymer support at 350 g./m.<SP>2</SP> of the phosphor. The developing bath in addition to black and white developer includes a colour developer such as a p-phenylenediamine derivative. To prevent cross-over blurring (light from screen reaching opposite emulsion) the emulsion support or a layer on it may contain a dye to transmit not more than 30% of 400-500 nm light, removed or decolorized by the processing baths. On test with 80 kV X-rays filtered through 6 mm. Al, with a pb test grid the embodiment was faster and showed higher resolution than the same sensitive material with prior art screens (phosphorus Eu-activated BaSO 4 -SrSO 4 and CaWO 4 respectively). Reference is made to Specification 1,477,639.
