Abstract
A method for preparing an x-ray comprising the steps of exposing a combination of a fluorescent enhancer screen and a photographic silver halide emulsion material through an object to be radiographed and revealing the silver halide material exposed, characterized in that said combination comprises (1) a silver halide photographic material comprising a support and silver halide capable of producing in said material a negative silver image having a covering power in excess of about 50 and being present in an equivalent concentration of less than about 0.080 g of silver per square decimeter and (2) at least one fluorescent x-ray intensifying screen material containing a phosphorus layer comprising a phosphorus or a mixture of phosphorus consisting wholly or principally of a lanthanum oxychloride, or lanthanum oxybromide, activated by an earth metal rare, said phosphorus or phosphorus mixture having more than half of its spectral emission above 410 nm, more than half of its visible light spectral emission between 400 and 500 nm and its maximum peak emission below 500 nm and wherein said phosphor layer has a coating of said lanthanum oxyhalide phosphorus of 100 to 800 g per mt. Square and said screen material has an intensification factor of at least 20 to 40 kv and at least 25 to 80 kv, this intensification factor being at least twice as high as that of a barium sulphate phosphorus layer strontium activated by europium having a substantial identity with respect to layer thickness, binder composition, phosphor particle size and phosphorus content per square meter.
