Abstract
1477202 D.C.-D.C. converters COULTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS Inc 11 May 1974 [11 July 1973] 6065/74 Heading H2F A circuit for providing a high voltage for a corona discharge device, e.g. a portable xerographic image recorder, comprises a pulse source 24 feeding a pulse shaping circuit 48 arranged to draw current from a D.C. source only during each pulse, and coupled to a voltage multiplying rectifier 66 feeding the corona discharge device 114. A control circuit is included so as to terminate the high voltage output after a predetermined number of pulses from the source 24. As shown, when a pushbutton 15 is depressed, a monostable circuit comprising C-MOS gates 26, 28 is enabled for a period determined by capacitor 40 and resistors 42, 44. During this period, a pulse oscillator comprising C-MOS gates 30, 32 and capacitor 36 provides pulses at 5 kHz which are fed to a shaping circuit 48 which provides short duration pulses in the primary of transformer 68. The resulting 1000 V pulses in the secondary are converted to 6000 V D.C. across capacitor 100 which is fed to a load 114 in the form the corona electrode positioned adjacent the film in a xerographic recording device. Zener diode 62 provides over-voltage protection when operating on low load. The circuit may be formed into a module of approximately one inch cube. Supply of auxiliary low D.C. voltage.-Zener diode 116 may be included between junction 102 and ground so as to provide 47 V for a toner exciting surface. Alternatively, 30 V D.C. can be provided by connecting terminal 124 to terminal A. Terminals 130, 132 may be connected to terminals A, B so as to provide 42 V D.C.
