Abstract

1477103 Solar heating F W MCCORD 16 Dec 1975 [6 March 1975] 9238/75 Heading F4U [Also in Division E1] A solar heater comprises two superposed sheets 10 formed wholly or substantially of flexible plastics material, or a single sheet folded to form two superposed sheets, the sheets being secured together, e.g. by welding, around their periphery 11 and along parallel lines 12 to form between the sheets interconnected channels 13 for receiving water to be heated. The heater is provided with a single combined inlet and outlet 18. An upper edge region of the sheets may have eyelets whereby the heater may be suspended on an inclined support frame, Fig. 3 (not shown). The plastics material preferably has a matt black external finish, and a sheet of thermal insulation material may be provided on the outside of the sheet 10 which faces away from the sun. One of the sheets may have a metal coating or may have metallic particles incorporated in the plastics material. A metal plate may be incorporated in one sheet. The heater may be incorporated in a wall of a tent.
