Abstract

1476970 Fluidised bed apparatus SIMON-BARRON Ltd 26 Aug 1975 [28 Sept 1974] 42236/74 Heading B1F [Also in Division F4] A batch fluidised bed apparatus comprising a treatment chamber having a gas permeable base disposed above a plenum chamber is characterized in that the treatment chamber is resiliently supported and provided with means enabling it to be vibrated in a gyratory fashion with components of motion in both the vertical and horizontal directions, whereby material in the treatment chamber is caused to be conveyed around a circular path therein, there being a normally closed inlet opening for the introduction of material to the circular path and a normally closed outlet opening for the removal of material from the treatment chamber. Thus in Fig. 1, gyratory vibration of fluidised bed chamber 10 by two out of balance motors 31 and 32, Fig. 3, assists fluidisation and also moves the bed particles towards normally closed outlet 22 when open for discharge on moving plate 23. The outlet may alternatively be closed by a scoop 42, Fig. 4, which is moved inwards to allow material to be discharged via the scoop 43, or may be in the form of an annular space surrounding conical base plate 12, Fig. 6, which is closed by an inflated tyre-like member 51 which is deflated for discharge. Means may be provided for adjusting the angle of motors 31 and 32. The apparatus can be used for chemical reaction or for heating/ cooling/drying granular material.
