Abstract

1402840 Blending powders W GLATT 5 April 1974 [5 April 1973] 15302/74 Heading B1C [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for fluidising, blending and granulating a powder has a bell-shaped container upper part 12 which can be adjustably positioned by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders 24 above a bottom plate 10 to provide an annular gas entry 72, a liquid spraying device 38, and a gas outlet 42. The lower edge 20 of the container part 12 projects inwardly to form a guide surface. There may be a stirrer 44, a comminuting tool 28, a gas outlet filter 40, a powder inlet 36 and product outlets 50 closable by a sliding shutter 52. The gas inlet is applied from an annular pleneum chamber 70 defined by the container wall and by a wall 60 upstanding from the bottom plate 10, and is closed by a sliding seal 62 or by a bellows (66, Fig 2 not shown). In operation a dense granulate may be produced by first preparing an agglomerate with the container part 12 lowered on to the bottom plate, and then raising it and drying the agglomerate with hot air; or a lighter granulate may be formed by supplying a gas, preferably heated air, simultaneously with commencement of liquid spraying.
