Abstract

1476774 Storage rack structure A MAURER 9 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973 12 Sept 1974 (2)] 53197/74 Heading A5A A fire-resistant storage rack structure for a warehouse comprises upright supports 1 consisting of tubular bodies through which a liquid may be passed, cross suports 2, preferably also as tubular bodies joined to supports 1 so that liquid may pass from 1 to 2 or vice versa. An inlet line 4 for feeding liquid into the lower ends of the supports 1, a manifold 5 receiving liquid from the structure via braces 8 and feeding it to a common return line 12, wherein flow-effecting means are provided for passing the liquid through the rack system in response to detection of a predetermined temperature around the supports 1 and is either provided by the connection of the inlet to the supply of liquid under pressure or by a pump. Preferably the liquid from 12 is fed back into 4 to form closed recirculation system and its temperature may be controlled in heat exchanger 20 by a heater or cooler 21. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 11 not shown), temperature-responsive sprinklers 17 may be fitted in the horizontal supports 2 which, on opening, allow a flow of liquid through the rack under the influence of the flow-effecting means.
