Abstract

1476472 Double glazing units NOVAGARD CORP 14 May 1974 21240/74 Heading E1R [Also in Division C3] A double or multiple glazing unit comprises panes 2, 4 spaced apart by strips 6, 8 which may have slots 14 and a desiccant 12. The channel 16 is filled with a hot melt sealant applied in a fluid condition so that it flows into intimate and adhering contact with the strips and the panes. The sealant is fluid above 200‹F and hardens on cooling without undergoing chemical reaction and has a Shore A Durometer hardness of 10-80 at room temperature. It consists of 20-100 parts of an elastomeric polymer of MW 15,000, 15-150 parts of plastics and tackifying resins, 0-44 parts of adhesion promoters and 0-150 parts of fillers and has a moisture transmission (ASTM-E96-63T procedure B) not exceeding 8.
