Abstract
1476153 Oxo-carboxylic acids HOECHST AG 27 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 42044/74 Heading C2C 5-Oxo carboxylic acids of formula wherein R 1 and R 2 which may be the same or different represent a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or R 2 represents hydrogen and R 1 has one of the above meanings, or R 1 and R 2 together with the carbon atoms form a substituted or unsubstituted 5- to 12-membered carbocyclic ring and R 3 , R 4 and R 5 represent a hydrogen atom or a substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or R 3 has one of the above meanings and R 4 and R 6 represent a substituted or unsubstituted 5- to 12-membered carbocyclic ring are prepared by reacting in the presence of a catalyst comprising ammonia, a compound bearing a primary amino group, or a compound yielding a primary amine group, or an imine. The process may be in a solvent such as acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran or benzene and many catalysts are listed. Examples describe the reaction of acetone or methyl ethyl ketone with acrylic acid.
