Abstract
1475772 D.C.-D.C. converters PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 May 1974 [1 June 1973 17 Nov 1973] 23769/74 Heading H2F [Also in Division H3] In a combined line deflection circuit and variable duty-cycle voltage supply therefor, of the type comprising a resonant circuit including deflection coils L y , trace capacitor C t and retrace capacitor C r , a further voltage supply (e.g. EHT) winding L 4 on a transformer T is more closely coupled to a winding L 3 , supplied with deflection current, than to the supply winding L 1 . This arrangement minimises the step during the trace period and facilitates fifth harmonic tuning. As described, D1 is conductive during the first part of the scan, the trace capacitor C t discharging via the deflection coils L y . T r is turned on during the first half of the scan, so as to pass the reversed deflection current via D2. The scan is terminated by turning off T r so that C r and L y provide the half cycle of flyback occillation which is rectified by D4 to provide EHT. D1 becomes conductive at the end of the half cycle to initiate a new scan. The scan amplitude is stabilized by feedback from C t to a pulse-width modulator D r . C3 minimises parasitic oscillation. Fig. 4 (not shown) graphically depicts the offset of varying the turns ratio L3/L2 and the coupling (which may be O). Fig. 7 (not shown) relates to a threelegged core for transformer T having an air gap in each outer limb and a centre limb forming a coupling-reducing shunt. Modification. In Fig. 9c the pulse-width modulated supply is provided by a further transistor T r while the line deflection transistor T r is controlled by a further winding L6. Diode D1 may be formed by the base/collector of T r <SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 6 (not shown) L y and C t are connected to tappings on L3. The lower end of L4 is connected to A. In Figs. 9a and 9b (not shown) C1 and L3 are transposed, D3 being connected to their common junction. Fig. 8b relates to a circuit having no D.C. path between the supply side (T r L<SP>1</SP> 2 ) and the deflection side, thus facilitating mains isolation.
