Abstract

1474696 Vehicle chassis member BRITISH LEYLAND U.K. Ltd 3 Oct 1974 [25 Oct 1973] 49717/73 Heading B7B [Also in Division E1] A beam has upper and lower flanges 12, 13 interconnected by opposed side webs 14, 15 so as to form a closed hollow cross section in which the webs are concave outwardly, which beam is filled with a rigid cellular plastics material, preferably foamed polyurethane. The filling and webs interact on deflection of the beam so that the filling resists flexing of the webs. The polyurethane may be foamed in situ and the beam used in the construction of an automobile body as a sill or chassis member.
