Abstract

1474662 Pressure gauges BRITISH GAS CORP 4 March 1976 [4 March 1975] 8888/75 Headings G1L and G1S A gauge for indicating change of pressure comprises an open ended pipe 1 with a shut-off valve 2 at one end; a sealed vessel 12 from which a narrow bore tube 11 extends; and a glass tube 8 connected via Hg traps 9, 10 to the pipe wall 6 and to tube 11. To detect leaks in a gas pipe 5 the pipe I is screwed into pipe 5 so that the vessel 12 extends into it. The system is pressurized via pipe 1 and gas passes into the vessel 12 until its pressure equals that of the pipe 5. This causes a Hg slug 13 to move along tube 8. The position of the slug can be adjusted by changing the system pressure via bleed valve 3. Loss of pressure in pipe 5 results in gas from the vessel 12 forcing the slug to the right until the pressures in the vessel and pipe equalize.
