Abstract
1474594 Insolubilized enzymes DORR OLIVER Inc 7 May 1974 [7 May 1973] 20086/74 Heading C3H Enzymes are entrained in anisotropic, microporous, polymeric, ultrafiltration membranes. According to a preferred procedure, an enzymic membrane is made by forming a homogeneous dispersion of the enzyme urease in a solution of acrylonitrile-vinyl chloride copolymer in dimethylformamide, casting the solution on porous paper to form a film, preferentially contacting one side of the cast film with a diluent (water containing 1-3% surfactant) highly miscible with the organic solvent and sufficiently incompatible with the polymer to effect rapidprecipitation thereof, and maintaining the diluent in contact with the film until substantially all of the solvent has been replaced with diluent and the polymer membrane with entrained enzyme dispersed therein has been precipitated.
