Abstract

1474107 Supply circuits for bicycle lights NEEDS Inc 14 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 21229/74 Heading H2H A supply circuit for the lights 3, 5 of a bicycle comprises an A.C. generator 1 driven by the motion of the bicycle, a battery 17, rectifiers 40, 41 and a manually operable switch 42. When the switch 42 engages contact 42a, the headlamp 3 and the rear lamp 5 are supplied with the negative half cycles of the generator output by the rectifier 40. The rectifier 41 enables the positive half cycles of the generator output to charge the battery 17. This position of the switch is suitable for day time use of the bicycle since the illumination of the lamps by the generator may be inadequate. When the switch engages contact 42b the lamps are illuminated, even if the bicycle is motionless, by the battery 17. During movement of the bicycle the generator charges the battery and also supplies current to the lamps via the rectifier 41 and the contact 42b.
