Abstract

1474090 Tyre deflation indicating system BELOIT MANAGEMENT & RESEARCH CENTER Inc 10 June 1974 [11 June 1973] 25574/74 Heading B7C [Also in Division G4] A system on a vehicle for actuating an alarm 101 in response to the occurrence of a burst tyre comprises portions 200 of a flexible pressure line, a pressure sensitive switch 110 having an element 114 arranged to move to an alarm position when the pressure of fluid in the line is reduced below a selected minimum, a tubular union member 210 inserted in frictional engagement into ends of portions of line 200, resilient retaining devices 202 circumscribing the end portions of line 200 for providing a fluid-tight connection whereby in operation, in response to a burst tyre the union member 210 is arranged to break the fluid-tight connection. In a truck and trailer assembly (Fig. 1, not shown), the pressure line is suspended between the dual rear wheels. The fluid-tight connection is broken when the pressure line is moved sufficiently or becomes broken by a burst tyre. The pressure switch includes a dash pot 116 including a plunger 114 normally biased to the off position by a compression spring 120. The alarm devices may be audible, or visual such as bells, lights. A switch 104 is provided for manual testing.
