1473858 Closet A HURTIG 3 Dec 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 52302/74 Heading E1C In a closet of the type having a flexible sleeve 5 arranged to be fed from a stored position to an excreta-receiving position 16 and thence to a storage bin 3, the sleeve is fed by jaws 7 which grip and close the sleeve in their upper position and are movable (e.g. by handle 8) vertically downwards in a guide whilst being maintained closed to a lower position whence they are restrained by a further guide to return to the upper position in an open condition in which they do not grip the sleeve. As shown, the jaws comprise parallel rods 7 spring-biassed towards each other with their ends received in an oval recess 11 in a plate 9. Two cams 12 are pivoted at 13 in the recess to define a space 14 therebetween and a space 15. The cams are spring- biassed so that their lower edges 20 contact each other. With the rods 7 in their upper position, Fig. 3, the space 14 acts as the first said guide whilst the rods are moved to their lower position, forcing the edges 20 apart. In the lower position, Fig. 5, the edges 20 close and the rods are constrained to move along space 15, which forms the further guide. The space 15 is narrower in its upper region than the rods 7 and so the rods force the edges 20 to open, Fig. 6 (not shown) until they reach their upper position.
