Abstract

1473702 Filament forwarding air slot MONSANTO CO 17 Dec 1975 [18 Dec 1974] 51564/75 Heading D1F A plurality of filaments are forwarded, e.g. from a spinneret to a laydown zone to form a non-woven web, through a rectangular slot 11 having wide walls (16, Fig. 2, not shown) and narrow walls 18 by a primary fluid stream, a secondary fluid stream being fed along the narrow walls of the slot in the direction of the primary stream in order to prevent boundary layer separation along the slot walls and consequent non-uniform filament deposition. Preferably the fluid is air and the filaments nylon 66. The primary stream enters via openings 12. The secondary stream enters via tubes 23 and flows along grooves 22 in the narrow sides 18. Grooves 22 are the same width as the separation of walls (16) and thus act as extensions of the slot 11.
