Abstract
1473031 Hollow charge cutting devices SOC NATIONALE DES POUDRES ET EXPLOSIFS 13 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 20123/75 Addition to 1367013 Heading F3A An elongated hollow charge explosive device for cutting steel ship hulls under water, comprises an explosive charge 4 and elongated elements 1 and 2 formed of a ductile and readily deformable metal or alloy, the element 2 being closed at its ends and filled with a gas. The end closures for the element 2 are plugs having provision for securing a detonator. The passage filled with explosive has a volume from one to three times that of the gas-filled passage 5; and the separating wall between the two passages constitutes at least 25% of the surface of the gas-filled passage. The wall thickness of the element 2 has a minimum thickness of from 3 to 10% of the average width of the device. The elements 1 and 2 are made from lead or lead-antimony alloy and permit the device to be bent to the shape required for cutting.
