Abstract

1472248 Delivering sheets; feeding boards LINOTYPE & MACHINERY Ltd 26 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 31097/73 Heading B8R Sheets from a handling-machine are fed by tapes over a feed table 1, Fig. 1, laterally aligned by joggers 17, and then fed between tapes 28, 29 on to a plurality of fingers 3 beneath combing rollers 35, to form a stack against back stops 8. As the stack builds up, the fingers 3, carried on a bracket 55 on chains 11<SP>1</SP>, are lowered by a pneumatic piston 51 under control of a stack height sensor. When a predetermined number of sheets have been stacked, the bracket 55 actuates a switch which actuates a pneumatic piston 33<SP>1</SP> to raise main fingers 14 carried on chains 111 to a position just below the fingers 3, the fingers then being retracted behind the stops 8 so that the stack falls on to the fingers 14, which are then lowered to deposit the stack on a board supported on rollers 12, while the fingers 3 are raised and projected to secure the next stack. The first stack is then ejected laterally by a piston-operated plate through an aperture 72 in a side plate 2. Feeding sheets.-After the ejection of each stack, a pneumatic piston 16, Fig. 7, moves a chain 21 so that a lug 21<SP>1</SP> thereon separates a stack-supporting board 64 from the bottom of a pile in a hopper 15, and advances it to a position on the rollers 12, the fingers 14 then rising between the rollers 12 to raise the board.
