Abstract

1471943 Wrappers for cigarettes PHILIP MORRIS Inc 10 June 1974 [22 June 1973] 25685/74 Heading A2C A smoking article comprises tobacco parts and/or parts of a tobacco substitute and, as wrapper, a film formed from a composition having as its main ingredient a film-forming natural polysaccharide or a derivative thereof. The polysaccharide may be a polyamide or a galactomannan, specific examples being pectin, guar gum, locust-bean gum, gum Karaya, gum acacia, British gum, agar, starch, carib gum, carrageenin and xanthan. Additionally the film wrapping may contain CaCO 3 , MgCO 3 , Ca(OH) 2 , Mg(OH) 2 , or mixtures thereof and as humectant, glycerine, monoacetyl glycerol, triethylene glycol, invert sugar, corn syrup or mixtures thereof. Examples describe the manufacture of cigarette wrappers and quality control tests on cigarettes wrapped by them.
