Abstract

1471775 Piezo-electric resonator SIEMENS AG 8 Aug 1974 [10 Aug 1973] 35055/74 Heading H1E To attenuate flexural and non-harmonic shear modes of a piezo-electric resonator, and to excite fundamental or overtone thickness shear modes, eliminating impedance and frequency discontinuities associated with temperature, a central electrode and two outer electrodes cover almost the whole of each face with opposing outer electrodes matched in outline and joined electrically, the central electrodes on the two faces being connected to or integral with outer electrodes in a non-opposed pair. A quartz disc 1, AT cut, carries semiannular outer 5, 6, (7, 8) electrodes with integral circular central electrodes 3, (4) separated by narrow gaps 11 and connected at the edges by clips 10 secured by conducting adhesive and opposed diametrically perpendicular to gaps 11; the clips 10 also support the resonator, the X axis lying parallel to the line joining them. In operation the electric field exists only between the central electrodes (Fig. 2, not shown). The suppression of false modes permits undamaged vacuum mounting.
