Abstract

1471642 Selective printing PITNEY BOWES Inc 14 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 1541/75 Heading B6F A printer includes an endless belt 34 with type faces 36 formed on its outer surface, a platen 10, a web 14 for moving a sheet 22 to the print position and a star wheel 48. As the desired type face 36 approaches the wheel 48, the wheel 48 is stepped by motor 44 so that one of its arms is engaged by the lug 40 on the back of the desired type face 36. The belt 34 thus rotates the wheel so that its arms are clear of the belt and in so doing causes the desired type face to be pressed by the arm into contact with the sheet 22. The type faces may be externally inked by a roller or ink impregnated. Uninked squares 38 provide spaces. A plurality of belts 34 may be used to print several lines at once or means be provided for moving the sheet 22 perpendicular to the belt 34 to print lines in sequence.
