Abstract

1469721 Tilting ladle COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 23 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 23000/75 Heading F4B A tilting ladle for treating and casting metal comprises a tubular member 1 with a tubular extension 2 at one end for use as a filling spout, and a tubular extension compartment 3 at the other end containing a gate 4 for controlling the contact of molten metal with a reactive substance that may be introduced into the compartment 3 through a stopper 5. The ladle may be made of thick sheet metal and is lined with refractory concrete. For treating cast iron with magnesium, coke impregnated magnesium is fed into the compartment 3 and the stopper 5 closed. The operator inclines the ladle about the axis 17 by means of a drive motor 14 at the required rate, so that the cast iron runs through the gate and contacts the magnesium-impregnated coke. The gate 4 may be disc-shaped with three axially-extending peripheral passages, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may be disc-shaped with a blind part (35) and a tunnel (36), having a canopy (37), Fig. 4 (not shown).
