Abstract

1469614 Opening shrunk wrappers UNION CARBIDE CORP 22 Aug 1975 [26 Aug 1974] 34883/75 Heading B8C A package comprising an overwrapping of a resilient shrink fitted film having an area 29 of low tensile stress relative to the stress obtaining in another area 31 has a package opening grip defined by a finger gripping hole 33 in the low tensile stress area 29, and adjacent the hole a tear initiating line 35 extending from an exposed edge of the film into an area 29. The line may be constituted by a cut, a perforated line or by the end of a seal. The hole 33 is formed by inserting a dowel in the film before shrinkage and removing it afterwards. The package may contain shirred food casings 13 or meat.
