Abstract

1442135 Easy open package UNION CARBIDE CORP 10 Sept 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 42376/73 Heading B8C In a shrink-wrap package, an area 25 of the shrunk overwrap film 23 has a tensile stress lower than that obtaining in another area of the film, and two tear-initiating cuts 27, 29, defining a gripping portion 31. extend into the lower tensile stress area 25 from an adjacent edge of the film 23. The film 23 may be heat shrunk polyethylene film applied around the package contents in the form of a sheet or a sleeve. When the film is biaxially orientated, the cuts 27, 29 extend parallel to one orientation direction and when the film is a blown film, the cuts 27, 29 extend parallel to the transverse direction of film manufacture. The package may comprise shirred food casings 13 located between end panel members 19, 21.
