Abstract
1469523 Treating molten metal; SG iron MATERIALS & METHODS Ltd 22 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 10160/73 Heading C7D A reactive additive is introduced into molten metal by flowing the latter through a reaction chamber in which a minimum level of molten metal is maintained and wherein the additive is introduced below the surface of the metal. In particular embodiments grey iron is treated either for desulphurization or with an Fe-Si-Mg alloy for production of S.G. iron. As illustrated metal is passed through a chamber 8 equipped with an injector lance 9, the molten metal depth being maintained by dams 5, 6 and 7 and controllable stopper 4.
