Abstract

The process comprises adding to the bath granules of high density material (pref. of the same type as the bath metal) coated with a desulphurising agent. Generally the metal is ferrous, and the additive is in the form of cast iron or steel granules coated with soda and/or lime in the ratio 5:2. The granules may be placed in the vessel in bulk before the melt or may be injected in a carrier gas. The high density of the granules ensures complete and uniform treatment of the melt, with no loss of valuable material from the additive.
