Abstract

1469439 Cartons FEDERAL PAPER BOARD CO Inc 20 March 1974 [26 March 1973] 12325/74 Heading B8P A carton for beverage cans C is formed from a cut and scored cardboard blank and comprises a series of panels consisting solely of a bottom panel 28, a pair of hinged side wall panels 26 and 30, a pair of overlappingly-connected top wall panels 24 and 30, and two pairs of end closure flaps 34, 44 and 34<SP>1</SP>, 44<SP>1</SP>, one flap 34 (34<SP>1</SP>) of each pair having locking elements 68 and 72 interlocking in apertures 74 (74<SP>1</SP>) of the other flap to retain the flaps in the closed position. The top wall panels are provided with cutouts 46, 48, 50 and 52 to form a pair of reinforced hand holes on overlapping adhesive-securement of the panels, flaps 58 and 58<SP>1</SP> being provided along the cut-outs 50 and 52 to shield the user from the edges. Tear-out portions 76, 76<SP>1</SP>, 78 and 78<SP>1</SP> are defined at two corners of the carton by tearlines 80, 80<SP>1</SP>, 82 and 82<SP>1</SP> to form a can dispensing opening. Curved scores 84 and 841 permit flexing of the can-retaining flap 94 defined on removal of the tear-out portions. The end closure flaps are shorter than the side wall panels so that the cans are visible through the resulting gaps at the corners of the carton.
