Abstract

1469316 Mixing apparatus NAUTAMIX PATENT AG 12 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 26159/74 Heading B1C A mixer for granular, pulverluent or pasty substances and/or liquids has at least one stirrer (as shown, a pair of rotatable screws 2, 2a) having both ends spaced from, and rotatable about, the axis of the inverted frustoconical vessel 1; and a combined stirring and fluid injection device 6, which has a rotary hollow shaft 7 mounting, as shown, two sets of stirrers 11, 14 and two spraying devices. The stirrers 11, 14 each carry at least one pair (as described, three) of stirring arms 12, 15 and are adjustable round the shaft; the upper spraying device 13 has a plurality of radial outlet passages perpendicular to. the axis of rotation, while the lower has an upwardly directed annular orifice 23. A gas may be introduced through a passage 19 to an annular space 18 under a bell-shaped member 17 to provide a gas seal for the bearings 8 and/or to fluidize the material in the vessel 1. The stirring and spraying devices may be adjustable longitudinally of the shaft 7 and there may be separate supply passages in the shaft for each spraying device. In operation the stirrers 2, 2a are preferably rotated in the opposite sense to the device 6 and so that material is moved upwardly adjacent the vessel walls. The device 6 is rotated at a high speed to produce a vortex.
