Abstract

1469238 Polarizing ferroelectric materials DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 6 Sept 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 41186/73 Heading C1J [Also in Division H1] A ferroelectric ceramic such as PZT or strontium-substituted PZT is polarized by first applying a voltage at a temperature within the range 100‹ to 200‹ C., which range is below the Curie point of the material, then applying a voltage at a lower temperature, e.g. between 25‹ and 50‹ C. A poling voltage of between 2À5 and 3À0 kv./mm. may be applied in both steps for about 5 minutes, and a time of about 30 minutes allowed to elapse between the steps. Particular ferroelectric ceramics referred to are K/Nb and Ag/Nb substituted PZT, and Ni, Bi and Cr substituted Sr substituted PZT.
