1516408 Optical material MULLARD Ltd 9 June 1975 24623/75 Heading C1J An optical material having an electrically variable birefringence value and a maximum remanent birefringence between 10 and 60‹C comprises a ferroelectric ceramic of the composition Pb 1 -x La x (Zr y Ti z ) 1 -N/4 O 3 where x is from 0À075 to 0À08 and y/z is greater than 70/30 but less than 74/26. An optical device including a body of the material may be used in a display, filter, imaging system or a memory device.
