1468937 Laundry presses A MEYER 28 Aug 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 37522/74 Heading D1A Pressing apparatus for squeezing out water from laundry comprises a membrane press having a press body 8 Fig. 1 with a pressure chamber 11 covered by a membrane 10, and a liquid-permeable conveyor belt 6 guided parallel to and beneath the membrane, and which is supported by a support body 2, the belt being movable between a loading station a pressing station under the press body and an unloading station where the hopper 20 of e.g. a dryer is positioned. Prior to the press is a pre-shaping mechanism 43. The press body is vertically adjustable by a am 13..16. In operation a bale 27 of laundry is moved by the belt 6 until it is under the press body 8, optical or mechanical sensors stopping it in position. Pressure fluid is drawn off via lower pipeline 19 from cylinder 13, and the press body descends under its own weight. Pressure fluid is then applied via the upper pipeline 19 until pressure fluid flows through a bore 17 into the pressure chamber 11, forcing the membrane 10 against the bale 27. After a preset time, the chamber 11 is emptied and the press body 8 is raised. The squeezed bale is delivered to the unloading station and drops into the hopper 20. Pre-shaping may be enhanced by an elastic bellows 28 in the housing 21, Fig. 2. The bodies 2, 8 are clamped by a mechanism 35 in the pressing position Fig. 3. In a further embodiment the pre-shaping mechanism comprises an oval upwardly open container 48 Fig. 4 with a swingable front 48' permitting the pre-shaped batch to leave the mechanism. Swinging is effected by a cylinder/piston arrangement 50, 51. The batch is compressed by a pressure plate 50 driven by a cylinder/piston 56, 57. The membrane 10 is clamped to the edge of the press body 8 by a ring 62. Fig. 3. Alternatively the membrane 10' is held in place by a ring 66 Fig. 6 held by a stop 68.
