Abstract
1468139 Mass spectrometers VARIAN MAT GmbH 17 June 1975 [18 June 1974 16 July 1974] 25833/75 Heading H1D An electrode structure for a monopole or multipole mass spectrometer is made by moulding an insulating material, e.g. glass, ceramics or thermoplastic into a tubular support for one or more parallel conductive rod electrodes which are detachably supported on the inside of the tube. In the case of glass, a glass tube surrounds a steel mandrel and after softening the pressure inside the tube is reduced causing it to collapse on the mandrel which is removed after cooling; see Fig. 1 (not shown). In the case of ceramics a conventional injection moulding technique is used; Fig. 2 (not shown). Figs. 3 to 7 (not shown) illustrate spectrometers with four to six circular or hyperbolic electrodes. A single supporting tube can extend over the length of the spectrometer or two spaced shorter tubes can be used.
