Abstract

A method of mounting a foraminated electrode adjacent and parallel to a planar end wall of a discharge tube envelope, the electrode being supported by a tubular side wall of the envelope and the end wall carrying a photo-sensitive electrode, comprises (a) sealing supports for the electrode to the tubular part, preferably using a mandrel (Fig. 3, not shown), at the required distance from the end of the tubular part, (b) mounting the foraminated electrode on the support, and (c) sealing the end wall to the tube, e.g. using an indium seal. This permits accurate spacing of the electrode and the end wall.
