Abstract
The cylindrical glass tube has the photocathode (2) at one end. along the length of the tube are a number (e.g. five to ten) of elements supported by two plates (10 and 11) of dielectric material parallel tot he plane of symmetry. The electrodes have co-axial extension rods (e.g. 4, 5, and 8), passing through holes in one only of the plates, and through metallic fixing pieces int he glass wall of the tube. The extension rods not only hold the electrodes, etc., in position, but also are the external connections. The output is on electrode extension (8). The lateral connections enable tubes to be closely packed for detection of radiation from elements emplanted in organs such as the liver.
