Abstract
1467475 Electron beam magnetic deflecting apparatus VIDEON SA 10 July 1974 [13 July 1973 13 Aug 1973] 30530/74 Heading H1D [Also in Division H4] A device for the deflection and convergence correction of coplanar electron beams in colour TV tubes comprises two pairs of coil windings on a single ferrite core for deflection in two orthogonal directions 0/90 degrees, and four toroidal coils on said or another single ferrite core when the coil windings are toroidal, or an another single core when the coil windings are saddle shaped, and connected in series for dynamic convergence correction and which produce a four-pole field at 45 degrees to the 0/90 degree axes, the field being rotatable by varying the current distribution through the coils, the toroidal coils for convergence correction being each divided into two halves 1, 2, 3, 4 and 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>, and located on the core so that the centres of each two diametrically opposite coil halves form an angle α with the 0/90 degree axes and so that one set of coil halves are connected in series and the other halves are in series, both sets being connected in parallel with a correction current source, the current of which is supplied via a current distributing member to the parallel connected sets of coil halves. Ends 8, 9 are connected to a coil 10 about a displaceable ferrite core 12 whereby the currents to the different winding groups may be varied. Generator 6 produces a variable current displacing the beams horizontally and on variation of the almost symmetrical supply in centre tap 11 an angular variation ## of the field occurs. The four-pole field may be considered the superposition of a 45/45 degree field (αcos- (##)), and a 0/90 degrees four pole field (αsin- (##)). Control of the current for oppositely influencing the two outer beams (R, B) is independent of the current distribution control for influencing the rotation of the beams out of the horizontal. The current distribution control may alternatively be as in Fig. 3 (not shown) with potentiometer (13) in place of coil 10, or a group of semi-conductor elements of controllable resistance may be used.
