Abstract

1467186 Tunnel linings BUDERUS' SCHE EISENWERKE and GRUN & BILFINGER AG 2 Aug 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 34217/74 Heading E1F A cast iron tubbing segment 1, Fig. 1, for tunnel rings has a flange 2 at each end, one flange having at least one concave recess 5 and the other flange having at least one convex projection 4, the height a<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, of the projection(s) 4, relative to the plane of the flange, being greater than the depth a<SP>2</SP> of the recess(es) 5, and the radius of curvature r<SP>1</SP> of the projection(s) 4 being smaller than the radius of curvature r<SP>2</SP> of the recess(es) 5. This arrangement produces a gap s between the adjacent flanges 2 when the tubbing segments 1 are assembled and permits limited pivotal movement between adjacent segments 1. The limited pivotal movement can be increased by inclining part of the surface of one of the flanges as shown in Fig. 3. The projections and recesses may be in the form of a ridge and groove as shown in Fig. 1, or may be in the form of dome shaped projections and recesses (Fig. 5, not shown) located in the regions where the annular flanges 3 and ribs 6 join the end flanges 2.
