Abstract
1467032 X-Ray tubes NORTH AMERICAN PHILIPS CORP 17 May 1974 [21 May 1973] 21998/74 Heading H1D [Also in Division G3] X-ray tube apparatus includes rotatable anode 5 and means for moving the anode axially in response to the temperature at the focal spot so as to present a cooler portion of the anode surface to the electron beam. The focal spot may trace a helical path. The tube shown includes metal wall 2, metal-to-glass seal 3, X-ray permeable window 4, cathode cup 6, rotor 9, stator 10, axial slide 11 mounted on stationary shaft 13 with axial bearings 14, rack 15, pinion 16, axial drive motor 20, light detector 18, viewing window 17 and amplifier 19 so that the anode is moved axially in response to increased loading. Sometimes anodes crack and portions leave the envelope; metal portion 2 acts as a shield, and the X-ray window 4 is not in the path of anode portions moving radially outward.
