Abstract

1448488 Mo-W alloys GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 2 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 51059/73 Heading C7A [Also in Division H1] At least the target area of an x-ray tube anode (e.g. rotating type) consists essentially of a W-Mo alloy, the W being in amount 5 to 35% by wt. (e.g. 30%). Mo produces characteristic radiation at lower voltages than W, as required for diagnostic mammography. The W modifies the ductile - brittle transition temperature and reduces severe cracking at high current operation. Clustering of atoms rather than short range atom order provides increased ductility at low temperatures by removal of interstitial elements (e.g. C and O). The entire anode need not be made of the Mo-W alloy; the base may comprise other materials such as, W and Mo for example.
