Abstract

1466990 Hydrogen peroxide KERNFORSCHUNGSANLAGE JULICH GmbH 12 June 1974 [20 June 1973] 26120/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] Hydrogen peroxide is prepared by (a) forming an aqueous solution containing alkali metal hydroxide and hydroperoxide by cathodic reduction of oxygen using an aqueous solution of alkali metal chloride as electrolyte, (b) adding a concentrated solution of alkaline earth metal chloride to the solution obtained, whereby alkaline earth metal peroxide is precipitated, (c) separating the alkaline earth metal peroxide precipitate, forming a suspension of it in water and converting it to an alkaline earth metal carbonate by means of carbon dioxide whereby hydrogen peroxide is formed in the water. The quantity and concentration of the alkaline earth metal chloride solution added to the solution containing hydroxide and hydroperoxide predominantly precipitates. Potassium chloride may be employed as the alkali metal chloride which is electrolysed. Calcium chloride is exemplified as the alkaline earth metal chloride.
