Abstract

1466879 Transformers and inductors H HIRST 21 Feb 1974 8056/74 Heading HIT An electromagnetic device comprises a magnetic core made from E and I members 2, 16 of specified proportions as shown in Fig. 1, an outer limb of the E member being longer than the other two limbs by a specified proportional amount. The members 2, 16 are cut from a sheet to leave no waste (Fig. 2, not shown), the spaces 10, 12 of the complete lamination being large enough to accommodate Al conductors instead of Cu conductors for a given kVA rating. The members 2, 16 may be insulated on one or both sides by varnish or oxide coatings. Devices for which the laminations could be used are transformers, inductors, chokes with normal or relatively high reluctance in which latter case the I member is slightly spaced from the E member by plastics insulating material (Fig. 8, not shown) and saturable reactors (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). Any Al conductor used may be insulated by polyvinyl acetal. Specific sizes and interrelated size ranges are given for the E and I members.
