Abstract

1466534 Cathode display device BURROUGHS CORP 10 Feb 1975 [8 March 1974] 5530/75 Heading C1M A cold cathode display device is made by screening on to a prepared base-plate (e.g. of glass or ceramic) a mixture, in a vaporizable vehicle, of a metal powder (e.g. Ni, Mo or stainless steel) and a resistive glaze material (defined as an electrically conductive oxide dispersed in a glass frit with optional additions of metallic modifiers), heating to drive off the organic solvents and firing to bond the material to the baseplate. The oxide in the glaze material may be of Nu, Sn, Cd or Tl and the vehicle may be ethyl cellulose in butyl carbitol acetate. The firing is preferably for 5-15 minutes at 500‹-600‹ C. in nitrogen and it is possible to enhance the glow spreading ability of the cathode by post-heating it for 10-60 minutes at 400‹-600‹ C. in air. The metal powder may be 2-30Á in size.
