Abstract

1345549 Glass-metal or metal oxide mixtures OWENS ILLINOIS Inc 26 May 1971 [27 July 1970] 17123/71 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] A resistor composition comprises a resistive metal organo-metallic compound (e.g. a metal resinate such as the mercaptides of Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru, In), at least one stabilizer in organometallic form wherein the metal does not oxidize at the temperatures used to fire the mixture (e.g. Ag, Au and Pt) and an anti-agglomerating agent which is inert to the system and will not burn out at alloying and/or firing temperatures (e.g. alumina, silica 7. The mixture is fired to drive off the organo-constituents, alloy the metals and in some instances to oxidize the resistive metal. The composition may then be made into a paste with glass binder and an organic solvent. Examples of such binders include the borosilicates, particularly the lead-alumina-borosilicates. A preferred binder having particle size less than 5 microns is a mixture of the oxides of Si, B, Al, Zn and Pb. Examples of solvents include butyl carbitol acetate and iso-amyl salicylate. The paste so formed may then be printed in a desired pattern using a conventional screen or mask and finally fired. More than one resistive or stabilizer metal may be used.
